Videotutorial: Wordfast Anywhere
By Cristina Plaza, Project Manager in Nóvalo.
The use of Internet and personal computers has completely modified the way a lot of professionals work. In some fields of the translation industry, it would be inconceivable to work without language services technology, such as translation memories or subtitle editors. During my studies my interest for this field of new technologies increased and last year I could present my doctoral thesis entitled La enseñanza de la traducción asistida por ordenador: análisis didáctico-curricular y propuesta de integración de la subcompetencia instrumental-profesional en el aula (Computer-assisted translation training: didactic and curricular analysis and proposal to include the instrumental/professional subcompetence in the class). This thesis can be consulted online (in Spanish). For my proposal I created some videotutorials in order to use them in the class for the following CAT tools: Trados Studio, MemoQ, Wordfast, across, Déjà Vu and OmegaT. All these videos will be presented in several posts we will published in the following weeks.
The first one of these videos is the free version of Wordfast, Wordfast Anywhere. To access to this tool you only have to register (it is really easy) and upload the files you need to translate. The tool seems quite simple, but it is a good option when we need a computer-assisted translation tool or the client prefers using Wordfast. Those of us who are used to this kind of tools will find it easy and it will allow us to align documents, carry out quality checks, work with online memories, export frequent segments, among other features. With all these features, we will be able to improve our professional translation services.
You are invited to watch this 10-minute video to get an idea of its main features and do not hesitate to share it with experienced translators, newly-graduated translators, interpreter and translator trainers, etc. The videos are only in Spanish.
I hope you found this first videotutorial useful. Stay tuned to the blog, as in the following weeks we will be publishing new videotutorials.
