Videotutorial: Déjà Vu

By Cristina Plaza, Project Manager at Nóvalo.

This week we bring you a video of Déjà Vu, one of the top computer aided translation tools. It was created at the start of the 1990s by a Spanish company, Atril, and it has established itself as a leader in the language service technologies sector. Since 2009 PowerLing has been the only company responsible for its distribution and for offering support and training.

Like many CAT tools, the early versions of Déjà Vu were integrated into the Microsoft Word interface. It now offers its own highly intuitive interface which allows users with knowledge of this kind of tool to get the hang of it quickly. If there is one feature that has always characterised Déjà Vu, it is the Assemble function, which allows you to translate one segment using fragments from other segments in a memory.

The version that we have included in this video is Déjà Vu X2. The most recent version is Déjà Vu X3 but, much like with Studio, the basic features are still virtually the same. The new features in Déjà Vu X3 include its compatibility with Dragon Naturally Speaking, the Live Preview function, which allows you to see the translated text in real time in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, and the option to see the text that is being translated in context, using the Source Context feature.

Do you use this tool? What do you think about it?
