01/Client

Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is a leading university in Ponce, Puerto Rico, specializing in medical sciences. With a strong reputation for educating healthcare professionals, PHSU places academic excellence, innovation, and ethical values at the heart of its educational approach.

The university recently took a significant step in its international expansion strategy by opening a new campus in Madrid. This new academic location not only extends its international reach but also reinforces its commitment to educating future leaders in the health sciences. By offering high-quality programs built on a solid scientific foundation and tailored to global demands, PHSU continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution in medical education.

02/The Challenge

With the opening of its new campus in Madrid, Ponce Health Sciences University needed to adapt its institutional and academic documentation for a Spanish-speaking audience without compromising the accuracy, clarity, or quality standards that define the institution.

This required translating a wide range of documents, including codes of conduct and honor, university policies, master’s program information, course catalogs, and educational materials. All these documents, originally written in American English, needed to be translated into Spanish in a clear, professional, and accessible style for students, faculty, and partners in Spain.

03/The Solution

To meet the specific needs of Ponce Health Sciences University, Nóvalo developed a comprehensive, tailored strategy that combined our team’s expertise with efficient planning and close collaboration with the client.

Our first step was to assign a team of highly experienced translators specializing in medical and academic content. Given the technical nature of the materials, this approach allowed us to deliver accurate, high-quality translations that met PHSU’s rigorous standards.

Due to the scale of the project and tight deadlines, we implemented a phased delivery schedule. This allowed us to prioritize the most urgent documents, such as codes of conduct and university policies, so that the PHSU team could move forward with its administrative processes while translation work continued. Thanks to this careful planning, the project did not cause any delays to the opening of the Madrid campus.

Close collaboration was essential to the project’s success. We worked closely with the PHSU team to follow the university’s institutional style guide and ensure that every translation accurately reflected its identity and messaging. This ongoing communication helped us maintain consistency across all documents and meet the client’s expectations.

We also conducted a thorough review of every document to ensure the Spanish translations were fluent, natural, and professional. Our goal was to make the materials accessible and easy to read while preserving the academic rigor that characterizes PHSU.

The success of this initial collaboration led PHSU to entrust us with an additional sworn translation service for key documents, including bylaws, certificates of existence, and documents relating to name changes. These translations, essential for legal validation in Spain, were handled with the same level of accuracy and quality as the rest of the project.

Overall, our solution enabled PHSU to successfully navigate the challenges of translating specialized content within tight deadlines while maintaining the quality and consistency that define the university.
